Saturday afternoon I was making my third trip to the hardware store, and as I listened to the local contemporary Christian station, I heard this little ditty coming out of my speakers.
Britney, I'm sorry for the lies we told
We took you into our arms and then left you cold
Britney I'm sorry for this cruel cruel world
We sell the beauty but destroy the girl
Britney I'm sorry for your broken heart
We stood aside and watched you fall apart
I'm sorry we told you fame would fill you up
And money moves the man so drink the cup
I know love goes around the world we know
And you never see it coming back
You never see it coming back
I know love goes around the world we know
And you never see it coming back
But I can see it coming back for you
Yes coming back for you
Britney I'm sorry for the stones we throw
We tear you down just so we can watch the show
Britney I'm sorry for the words we say
We point the finger as you fall from grace
Wow... does this guy (Bebo Norman, a young artist from Columbus, GA) really think that Britney Spears' spending habits, addictions, and bizzare behaviors are OUR fault?? And that we owe her an apology of some sort? And in the grander scheme of things, THIS is what passes for legitimate Christian music? After hearing this meaningless tripe, what a contrast to sit in church not 24 hours later and hear this one:
I boast not of works, nor tell of good deeds,
For naught have I done to merit His grace.
All glory and praise shall rest upon Him,
So willing to die in my place.
My trophies and crowns, my robe stained with sin
Was all that I had to lay at His feet.
Unworthy to eat from the table of life,
Till Love made provision for me.
I will glory in the cross, in the cross,
Lest His suffering all be in vain.
I will weep no more for the cross that He bore,
I will glory in the cross.
I'm not knocking contemporary Christian music - but why do so many artists think the way to reach the world is to take God OUT of their music?
Just my two cents' worth...

I see it a little differently Ed.
Not that they have taken God out of their music, but the sad thing is that God was never in it!!!
Buddy
I was only implying that too many artists think they can connect better if they don't mention God... but your point is valid - many of them are completely devoid of Him.
I find that I must disagree with you Ed. To make my point valid I first went to my dictionary to look-up Christian Music. It wasn't there. I think it's absence made the point all too clear. But, in an effort to validate my method, I also looked up Spanish Music and also found it's definition absent. Then I realized that I am a 45 year old African-American male from the inner city of Detroit Michigan. That's when I started laughing at myself. How do I know what Spanish music is? So many Spanish songs are about love. As I understand it...love is not solely or exclusively Spanish. Well...at least I hope not. I assume that if the song uses instruments indigenous to Mexico or is sung by someone of Spanish decent or with a Spanish accent then it must be Spanish music.
If this is true then, since I believe Bebo Norman is a Christian, that Britney song would be a Christian song. All Christian songs aren't "Praise & Worship" quality. Some Christian songs just have a Christian Heart within the words. To apologize to someone you don't directly know for something that you didn't directly do and to do so from your heart and on behalf of another..........wow. You've either (1)got a gun pointed to your head or (2)you have Christ in your heart. I'm going with number 2.
Plus...I don't believe, that on judgment day, our God will be accepting the "It's wasn't my fault" defense. Though I'm sure that billions of people are going to attempt to use it. Please read (EZEKIEL 3:18-21) and maybe one day we can have heart-to-heart discussion about it.
I guess that, in respect to your blog, Bebo Norman helped to take the wooden plank out of my eyes so that I might see well enough to take the saw-dust out of yours.
That song is not "Praise & Worship" and on that level I agree with you 100%! But...I must state that I feel that the song itself was a Christian action therefore I consider it a Christian song.
